Throwback Thursday 5: Controversial Topics

(I originally published this post on September 29, 2012. You can find it here. My prayer is still much the same. I pray that God will use my writing to touch lives, and do no harm. I pray that I will have the “thick skin” for controversy when it occurs, but that I will not ever stir the pot just for “drama.” I believe God calls us to stand up for what is right, and that’s not always popular. I also believe that He calls us to avoid strife. I want to walk the narrow road (or be carried down it when I am weak). Enjoy!)

Lately, I’ve felt fairly inspired to write about some controversial topics, yet, I haven’t been doing it. I have to admit, I’m a little bit afraid of publishing my opinion on heated topics (like abortion, medication/healthcare, and other topics). I am a little bit sensitive when it comes to criticism, and I think posting my opinion (and let  me tell you what…these are some topics that I am VERY opinionated about) will open me up to the criticism of friends, family, and strangers.

But that isn’t my only concern…I am also afraid of hurting someone that means the world to me…or even someone I’ve never met before. Because, let’s face it, opinions can be hurtful.

So, as I start putting more effort into my writing, and specifically my blog, I am praying that God will help me know what topics to write about, what topics to leave alone, and just how much to write about the topics I should write about.
