Reflect and Resolve with Tracy Crump

Last February, I signed a long-awaited contract for my book, Health, Healing, and Wholeness: Devotions of Hope in the Midst of Illness. Then the covid pandemic struck our country. What? Wouldn’t this have been the perfect time for a book on healing to release? Mine wasn’t even finished, much less in print. God and I had several conversations about this timing thing. What was He thinking?

I hurried to complete the book, but the publishing process took longer than I’d envisioned. Sometimes it seemed like those dreams where you’re running through chocolate pudding. In snowshoes. Still, the book would surely release by the end of the year.

In August, I learned that catalog dates and other publishing particulars I don’t understand would push my book release to June 1, 2021!

While I may be disappointed, God knows what He is doing. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).

One day, the ravages of covid will be a distant memory, but we’ll still face illness and injury, devastating diagnoses, and overwhelming caregiver responsibilities. People will still need God’s hope. I learned that I may make writing plans, but God directs my steps (Proverbs 16:9 NIV). And His plan is always far better than mine.

I’ll launch my book, of course, but visions of devotional books on caregiving and nurses are dancing in my head. We’ll see what God plans.

Tracy Crump’s devotional book, Health, Healing, and Wholeness: Devotions of Hope in the Midst of Illness is listed for preorder on Amazon. She has contributed almost two dozen stories to Chicken Soup for the Soul books, and her course on writing for the series is one of Serious Writer Academy’s top sellers. She is a freelance editor, proofreads for Farmers’ Almanac, has published articles and devotions in a variety of publications, speaks at conferences, and co-directs Write Life Workshops. But her most important job is Grandma to four completely unspoiled grandchildren.

  1. Tracy-I am always amazed at His timing too-even though we do not always understand it or “when,” it is perfect and I do give thanks that you understand that. What a special calling to write on those topics. May He continue to lead you in His perfect timing. Prayers!
