Thief.

I have identified a thief in my life.

This thief steals from my dream of being a writer and photographer.

This thief steals from the time I should spend with my children.

This thief robs me of precious sleep.

It destroys productivity.

It kills forward progress.

Do you have a thief in your life? Can you identify something that is taking time away from the truly important people, dreams and goals in your life?

Mine: Facebook. I know, that sounds cliché. But it is true.

So, I am going to be working on limiting my time on FB. Yet, in identifying this, I’ve discovered that I am allowing theft in other areas of my life.

I have allowed my dream to steal time from my children. I have allowed my dream to steal time from my home. I have excused it by convincing myself that my dream is such a priority it is worth it. Yet, my children will be grown before I know it, and all I’ll be left with is a dream. I don’t want them to say, “Well, our mom has a great dream, but we sure didn’t get much time with her when we were growing up.” I’d rather have a lousy dream, or no dream at all, than to disappoint my kids by my inattentiveness.

So, to take on the battle toward victory, I will be doing a few things. I will get off the computer at 7am to wake my kids and be intentional about our day/time together. I will not spend an hour of my 4-7am writing time on FB. I may even put my phone on silent and put it in the other room so I’m not tempted to use FB from it. My kids are worth limiting my dream, my dream is worth limiting FB, and in the end I believe we will all be more satisfied!

So what thieves in your life need to be stopped? How will you stop them?
